Charles F. Knight, MBA '59Charles F. Knight, MBA '59, a celebrated business leader who was CEO of Emerson for 27 of its consistently profitable years, has released a new book entitled, "Performance Without Compromise: How Emerson Consistently Achieves Winning Results."

For 43 years, global manufacturing and technology leader Emerson achieved consecutive annual increases in earnings per share and dividends per share. This remarkable record, which spans varying economic cycles from the 1950s through 2000, ranks among the longest in American business. Today, Emerson remains one of the world's most admired, innovative, and successful companies.

In his book, Knight argues that Emerson's long-term competitiveness is the result of a dynamic management process carried out with unrelenting discipline. Remarkably smart and simple, Emerson's system consists of six vital management tenets that most companies fail to follow-through on. Performance Without Compromise describes how the Emerson management team developed, fine-tuned, and zealously executed the management process.

The book is filled with insightful lessons about leadership, management, and competitiveness, and outlines the tools and principles that can help any company manage successfully in extraordinary economic times.

Mr. Knight recently discussed the book and his career with Randall Sawyer, the Public Relations Officer at the Johnson School. Read the interview.
