The value of an MBA
In “The Next Generation,” the cover feature in Hispanic Executive
(September/October 2010), Michael Jurado, MBA ’11, was one of
four MBA students enrolled in different programs who spoke to
the relevance of his MBA experience in a rich Q & A. The story
connected his background and personal history as a Hispanic
American and why he believes it is so important to give back. About
his choice to attend Johnson’s general management program, Jurado
said, “I knew I wanted to have a different experience; I wanted to go
to a smaller school where I could really get to know my classmates
on a personal level, and the school was a perfect fit for me. ... [The] general management
degree... enables one to
look at the world through
a different lens and will
help position me as a leader
regardless of whether my
work is in the for-profit or
the not-for-profit sector.”
When asked how
his Johnson experience
informed his op/ed, “U.S.
can’t afford to wait to
switch to clean energy any
longer” (Detroit Free Press,
Aug. 11), Steve Maddox, MBA ’10, said: “My time at Johnson gave
me the toolsets to analyze opportunities. I understand that the crux
of the carbon trade argument is really a basic ‘make vs. buy’ decision
that I learned in Core Economics (and later driven home by my
classes and discussions with Professor Ben Ho). I came to Johnson
looking for the tools to prove (or disprove) what my gut told me was
the right decision, and I got them.”
