Professor Maureen O’Hara Sheds Light on High-Frequency Trading

Johnson’s market structure expert was interviewed live by CNBC on the effects of computerized trading and possible curbs to high-frequency and algorithmic trading in European markets. The interview followed upon O'Hara's commissioned paper for the UK's Foresight Project on the Future of Computerized Trading in Financial Markets.

October 02, 2012

O’Hara was selected for the interview, based on her work on the UK’s Foresight Project on the Future of Computerized Trading in Financial Markets. The project, run by the U.K.’s Government Office for Science, aims to assess to risks and benefits of computerized trading, by commissioning research from experts on financial markets.  O’Hara’s paper titled “The impact of computer trading on liquidity, price efficiency/discovery and transaction costs” (with Oliver Linton of Cambridge University) was directly commissioned by Foresight, and outlines some of the benefits of computerized training.
