An invitation to rise to the challenge and support growth at Johnson
Dear Alumni and Friends:
I wrote to you in January about the remarkable $10 million gift from John Smith, MBA '74, and his wife, Dyan Smith, to establish the John and Dyan Smith Family Business Initiative, and about the $5 million from the Dyson Foundation, on behalf of Rob Dyson, MBA '74, to fund the first Founding Faculty Chair for Johnson at Cornell NYC Tech. Now, Jeff Parker ’65, MEng ’66, MBA ’70, David J. Breazzano, MBA ’80, and Peter Wright ’75, MBA ’76, have joined the Smiths and Dyson, committing substantial gifts totaling $27 million to support Johnson programs, faculty, research, and scholarships. Inspired by the opportunities for growth and innovation we are actively engaged in here at Johnson — including the launch of our new MBA at Cornell NYC Tech, enhanced programs in Ithaca, and expanding our reach and reputation to key regions around the globe — these generous alumni have invited the Johnson community to participate in an Innovation Challenge and raise an additional $23 million, with the goal of reaching $50 million by June 30, 2015.
Speaking at the Alumni Awards Gala, Jeff Parker enthusiastically called on all Johnson alumni to take part in this exciting new era at Johnson, saying: “This is a game changer for Johnson and Cornell. This is a serious opportunity to make a big difference in the world of business education.”
While I am deeply grateful for the long-term support of the Johnson community, I would like to endorse Parker’s appeal and encourage all of us to come together and contribute to make this Innovation Challenge, and all the exciting new programs it will support, successful.
With warm regards,
Anne and Elmer Lindseth Dean
